Prof. Chidi Oguamanam


Prof. Chidi Oguamanam, is the Managing Editor, Nigeria Journal of Environmental Law & Policy (NJELP) Environmental Law Research Institute’s journal.

Prof. Oguamanam is an Associate Professor of Law.  He started his career with the law Firm of Chris Ogunbanjo & Co., (SAN) from where he rose to Acting Head, Intellectual Property Unit before he moved to Canada in 1999.

He is presently The Director, Law and Technology Institute, Dalhousie Law School and Assistant Professor, Dalhousie Law School, Canada.

His area of specialization includes international law, indigenous law, intellectual property, plant diversity and traditional medicine, Genetic Contamination and Intellectual property rights, patents and traditional medicine and dialectics of knowledge transformation. He edited and co-edited several books amongst which is International Law and Indigenous Knowledge: Intellectual Property, plant biodiversity and traditional medicine (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2006). He has published topical and contemporary articles in learned journals in USA, Nigeria, United Kingdom and Canada. Prof, Oguamanam is a member of Nigerian Bar Association, Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society, Canada Association of Law Teachers and fellow Canada Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ethics of Health Research & Policy.

Huzi Mshelia


Huzi Mshelia, Partner in Huzi & Associates and Executive Director Clean Energy Initiative. He is presently leading the team for the development of policy framework in respect of climate change in Nigeria.

Dr. Irekpitan Okukpon


Irekpitan is an astute academic researcher with 11-years’ experience in teaching and researching. She has a doctorate degree in Environmental Law from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, an LL.M. degree (with Distinction) in Marine and Environmental Law from the same Institution, and a first degree in law from the University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria.

 

She served as Academic Support Tutor for LL.B. students at the Faculty of Law, University of Cape Town, South Africa, and as a guest lecturer in 2014 and 2015for the LL.M. class in Pollution Law at the same institution. She currently serves as Tutor for the Advanced Environmental Law, and Legal Methods and Research courses at the NIALS Akinola Aguda Postgraduate School. Her core areas of research include International Environmental Law (specifically Waste Management) and International Migration Law.

Irekpitan is an experienced researcher, consultant and policy analyst. Her research work revolves around environmental sustainability, electronic waste management, and the entrenchment of human rights at the national level. She has served in various capacities as Consultant for Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (2018-2019); on a joint Heinrich Boll Foundation/ Environmental Resource Centre (ERC) research project on Improving Environmental and Social Impact Assessment in Nigeria (2016 -2018); and currently serves as a Consultant for the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). She has over 30 academic publications and has made over 48 presentations at various international and national fora. Currently, she is Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Lagos, Nigeria and serves in triple capacity as the Coordinator of the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Division, NIALS; Acting Head of Department, Public Law; and Special Assistant to the Director-General, NIALS.

Dr. Oluwatoyin Adejonwon


Dr. ADEJONWON, Oluwatoyin is a senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, university of Lagos and a solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She obtained her LL.B. degree from the Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University; a Master's Degree in Law from the University of Lagos; and a Ph.D. in International Environmental law from the Faculty of Law, University of Dundee, United Kingdom in 2012.

 

Her research interests span environmental law, governance of the climate change process, the legal and regulatory frameworks governing the process, and the linkages with sustainable development. She recently visited the Faculty of Law, University of Stellenbosch as a visiting scholar and a guest lecturer in the postgraduate course on sustainable development law and policy, and the Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria as a guest lecturer for the Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa Programme. She serves on the Committee (Legal Working Group LWG) of Experts providing legal, advisory and technical support on climate change to the Department of Climate Change (DCC) of the Federal Ministry of Environment of Nigeria.

Dr. Erimma Orie


Dr Erimma Gloria Orie is a senior member of the Nigerian Bar Association and former Head of Department, Private and Property Law of the Faculty of Law, National Open University of Nigeria where she teaches Environmental Law, Oil and Gas (Energy) Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Dr Orie holds a B.A. (Hons) degree in Philosophy of the University of Calabar and an LL.B. (Hons) degree of the University of Lagos.  She obtained an LL.M. degree in Maritime and Commercial Law from the Lagos State University where she emerged the best graduating student of her set. She is a recipient of a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Legislative Drafting of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Nigeria, University of Lagos Campus with a Ph.D. Thesis on Climate Change.

Dr Orie is a member of the Panel of Neutrals of the Lagos State Multi-Door Court House where she has settled several civil and commercial cases. She is also a certified Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) practitioner and trainer.

Dr Orie is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria and a member of several professional bodies like the Nigerian Maritime Law Association, Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Law and Society Association (LSA), the World Commission on Environmental Law (IUCN-WCEL), the European Environmental Law Forum (EELF) and the Academic Committee of the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE). She is a Fellow of the Ife Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) University of Ife, Nigeria, a pioneer Associate Fellow of the Centre of  Excellence in Migration and Global Studies (CEMGS) of National Open University of Nigeria, Research Fellow in the Directorate of  Research Administration National Open University of Nigeria and an Associate Editor of International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management  (IJCCSM) (2021-2023).

 

As a resource person she has attended several local and international workshops / conferences including the annual United Nations Meeting of Conference of Parties (COP) on climate change featuring as paper presenter or discussant. She has researched extensively in the area of climate change and renewable energy and has several peer-reviewed articles to her credit as well as contributed Chapters in books on Energy Law and Environmental law.
